Recent Significant Projects

For the past 2 years, I have been involved in revising the CDC guidelines for the treatment of Trichomoniasis with the full supplement published in Clinical Infectious Diseases. I was the lone pharmacist member on the team responsible for describing the mechanisms behind major treatment changes. Additionally, I participated in ASHP Legislative Day and discussed key pharmacy initiatives with members of Congress.

Involvement in ASHP

President of the Georgia Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists
Delegate for the ASHP House of Delegates
Member of the ASHP Council on Pharmacy Management
Member of ASHP Section of Pharmacy Practice Leaders (SPPL)Section Advisory Group (SAG) on Value, Quality, and Compliance (VQC)

Why did you become involved in ASHP?

Initially, I joined ASHP to find a residency program, but over time, I have become more involved in my Georgia state affiliate as well as presenting, engaging, and advocating on the national level. I stay in ASHP due to the ability to network, maximize my professional development, advocate on important pharmacy issues, and stay up to date in my field.

Advice for Someone New to Specialty Area

Learn to love problems and problem-solving. Seeing problems all day can be frustrating. However, when a colleague brings you a problem, it shows great trust in you to help solve the problem, and you also gain valuable experience for future problems. Additionally, resist the urge to micromanage problems. Bring everyone into the process of finding a solution. Then, it becomes our program that can serve as an example for others. As a manager and clinical consultant, I work in the service industry and am tasked with providing solutions to unique operational and clinical problems across the country.

How would you explain the value of ASHP to a friend or colleague?

For me, the value of ASHP for an individual is harbored in two domains: networking and professional development. At meetings, whether virtual or live, ASHP members have the opportunity to meet other leaders in pharmacy across the country. Also, ASHP members have the opportunity to engage in pharmacy topics unique to our practice settings and maximize our own professional development from clinical topics to well-being and resilience.

What is the value of ASHP for the profession?

ASHP is well-resourced on advocating for our professional and understanding government dynamics to package meaningful messages to decision makers. Whether it is asking for legislative support or asking an agency for further guidance, ASHP helps pharmacists practice at the top of their license to best serve our patients and communities.
