Recent Significant Projects

In my current role as Director of Pharmacy Trade Relations and Business Development, I work with manufacturers to obtain access to drugs, with payers to obtain necessary contracts, and assist with all ambulatory pharmacy contracts for the Memorial Healthcare System, including specialty pharmacy, home infusion pharmacy, and retail pharmacy services. I also work closely with our healthcare system’s employee plan and pharmacy benefits.  Recently, I worked on a project with my healthcare system's human resources department, health network, and pharmacy benefit manager to redesign our pharmacy benefits for our self-insured health plan to maximize utilization of our specialty pharmacy and in-house retail pharmacy locations.  This project helped to save the health plan over $4 million in drug savings through improved drug pricing and maximization of manufacturer coupon programs, as well as helping to decrease our members’ copays on medications.

Initial Involvement in ASHP

I am currently an active member of ASHP and serve on the ASHP Section of Specialty Pharmacy Practitioners Advisory Group (SAG) on Business Development.

Why did you become involved in ASHP?

I have been a part of a healthcare system for the past 15 years and ASHP has always been an important advocate and resource for health system pharmacists.  With ASHP’s recent addition of the Section of Specialty Pharmacy Practitioners, healthcare systems with Specialty pharmacies have a resource to join, network, and share practice-specific interests, issues, challenges, and ideas.

Advice for Someone New to Specialty Area

The specialty pharmacy arena is a challenging area full of opportunities for healthcare systems to best service our patients. We need to continue to strive to work together towards better access to limited distribution drugs and payer access so we can make sure our healthcare system patients are best served and receive the continuity of care they want and deserve.

How would you explain the value of ASHP to a friend or colleague?

ASHP provides opportunities for networking with colleagues and helps support the profession of pharmacy.  It has practice resources, clinical and leadership meetings and conferences, as well as continuing education opportunities and educational resources.

What is the value of ASHP for the profession?

ASHP has always been a strong advocate for pharmacists and in helping to advance healthcare. The organization addresses issues that are relevant and pertinent to the time, advocating on national and state levels.  They are at the forefront of issues and challenges facing the changing and evolving profession of pharmacy.
