Kristy Nguyen, Pharm.D., MBA, MS

Pharmacist

OHSU Health Hillsboro Medical Center

Reasons for selecting this career path:

Throughout my pharmacy education and career, I continuously work toward developing myself as an adherent of the sciences and evidence-based practices, a learned clinical pharmacist, and an enthusiastic supporter for the advancement of the pharmacy profession through a clinical role. I chose this career path because pharmacy has tremendous professional value that plays a vital role in providing quality patient care and community service.

Professional Interests:

  • Inpatient clinical services coordination and management
  • Transitions of care and ambulatory care service expansion
  • Medication and patient safety
  • Pharmacy integration and practice advancement
  • Process improvement and sustainability

Interest in the NPF Executive Committee:

I have been honored to serve as the ASHP summer intern, within the Pharmacy Student Forum, and now within the New Practitioners Forum. Through organizational involvement, I have greatly benefitted by gaining worthwhile professional development experiences, valuable mentorship and networking, and an advantaged platform to be an agent of change steering the direction of pharmacy practice. In return, I seek to pay it forward, devoting myself to perpetuate the art and ethic of providing public service through our Committee charges.

As a NPF Executive Committee Member, I know that I am offered the opportunity to be part of an organization that works to build strong and adaptable practitioners, revolutionary leaders in clinical practice, and resilient professionals that will rise to the challenge as the next generation of pharmacists.

Benefits of being involved in ASHP as a New Practitioner:

Now, more than ever, is a time of uncertainty. Information is constantly changing. Moment to moment, we do not always have all the facts to know what exactly is going on, what will happen, and how to move forward.

As new and developing practitioners, we are often faced with uncertainties. But we are discovering our motivations, our strength, and our dynamism through these curious times. By embracing the unpredictable as welcome opportunities to put ideas into action, we are beginning to find some clarity in a time of ambiguity. Being involved in ASHP as a New Practitioner provides a space where we can collect these ideas. And, more importantly, being involved provides a community where we can help one another face uncertainty head-on with sound critical thinking and emotional tact, persevere fearlessly for transformative change in furthering pharmacist-driven value, and continue to advocate for the well-being of our patients.
