Focus on Compensation

ASHP is working on a strategy to help pharmacists receive compensation for their patient-care services. A staff working group is drafting an action plan to serve as the framework for the Society's advocacy efforts on this issue. The group will use current ASHP policy as its starting point and will identify potential activities and opportunities for collaboration. Reimbursement for pharmacist-provided patient-care services is not applied evenly in federal and state payment structures. The Social Security Act does not include pharmacists in its definition of health care providers—a critical oversight because this often blocks compensation for pharmacists.
