World Asthma Day, May 3, 2000: Let Every Person Breathe

Cheryl A. Thompson

As part of this year's worldwide theme, "Let Every Person Breathe," ASHP selected medication access as a public campaign. "Improving Indigent Patients' Access to Asthma and Allergy Medications" provides a platform from which pharmacists can educate physicians, health-system administrators, nurses, and other health care providers about the importance of treating asthma and the resources available for helping indigent patients.

Under the direction of University of Florida Pharmacy Professor Leslie Hendeles, Pharm.D., students Chris Fields and Andrea Ruygrok compiled the online booklet "How To Obtain Free Asthma and Allergy Medications for Indigent Patients." The information in the booklet, organized by drug name and manufacturer, is current as of Feb. 25, 2000. Click here to access the booklet

In addition to providing this information booklet, ASHP encourages pharmacists to take this opportunity to educate consumers about asthma and the treatment options available.
