NIH's Online Journal Library Opens

With contributions from five scientific publishers including the National Academies, PubMed Central opened the doors to its electronic library in early January.

The online repository, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), provides free access to the full text of original peer-reviewed life sciences research reports. First proposed by then-NIH director Harold Varmus, M.D., the concept of PubMed has evolved in response to abundant commentary from scientists and publishers. For more information, go to
