Angela Weeks, CPhT, and Karen E. Koch, Pharm.D., BCPS, FASHP, received the 1999 Award for Achievement in the Professional Practice of Pharmacy in Health Systems. The award, presented annually by the ASHP Research and Education Foundation at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibits, recognizes significant contributions to the literature of health-system pharmacy practice. Weeks and Koch, of the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, won for their article "Clinically Oriented Pharmacy Technicians To Augment Clinical Services," in the July 1, 1998, issue of the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy. Their article described how two clinically oriented technicians freed up pharmacists’ time by taking on routine clinical data-collection tasks and managing clinical projects. The award included an honorarium, a travel allowance to attend the awards ceremony, and a plaque. ASHP and Wyeth-Ayerst Pharmaceuticals fund the awards program.
