ASHP's CliniTrend™ Version 2: An Effective Tool for Justifying Pharmaceutical Care

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) has released the newest version of CliniTrend for Windows software designed to help pharmacists collect and analyze data. This information provides pharmacists with a powerful tool to demonstrate their impact on improving patient outcomes and lowering health care costs.

This newly revised, Y2K-compliant version allows the user to work in multiple windows and access information by patient, employee, adverse drug event, or other field. CliniTrend also helps the user incorporate specific information related to a patient's care. Standard features include the ability to:

  • Document and summarize pharmacist interventions, consultations, and patient care activities,
  • Track adverse drug events and report them to the Food and Drug Administration using MedWatch Form 3500,
  • Create customized reports, and
  • Assign and delegate pharmacy consulting tasks.

This powerful program helps pharmacists prepare complicated dosing calculations, collect data on daily pharmaceutical care activities, and track medication interventions. CliniTrend is also useful in reporting the results of investigational drug studies.

Unlike many other software programs, the yearly single-user CliniTrend subscription service includes customer support and timely updates at a cost of just $519.95 per year for ASHP members and $649.95 per year for nonmembers. A network version is also available for $795 per year for members and $994 for nonmembers. To download a free demonstration copy or to order, visit ASHP's software Web site at software.ashp.org or call ASHP Customer Service at (301) 657-4383.

ASHP is the 30,000-member national professional association that represents pharmacists who practice in hospitals, health maintenance organizations, long-term care facilities, home care, and other components of health care systems. ASHP believes that the mission of pharmacists is to help people make the best use of medications. Assisting pharmacists in fulfilling this mission is ASHP's primary objective. The Society has extensive publishing and educational programs designed to help members improve their delivery of pharmaceutical care, and it is the national accrediting organization for pharmacy residency and pharmacy technician training programs.
