The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) House of Delegates has reelected David A. Zilz to a second three-year term as Treasurer. The House of Delegates session was conducted in conjunction with the Society’s Annual Meeting ’98 in Baltimore, Md in June.

Zilz is a senior consultant at the University of Wisconsin Health Corporate Pharmacy Programs, and is an independent consultant to health systems and corporations. A recipient of ASHP’s Harvey A.K. He served as the President of the Wisconsin Society of Hospital Pharmacists and twice received its Pharmacist of the Year award.

The Treasurer’s duties include serving as chair of the Committee on Finance, overseeing conservation and investment of ASHP assets and funds, assuring expenditures in accordance with the programs, priorities, and budget established by the Board, and informing the Board and House of Delegates of the financial strengths and needs of ASHP. The Treasurer also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the ASHP Research and Education Foundation, with the responsibility for managing the Foundation’s assets and funds.

ASHP is the 30,000-member national professional association that represents pharmacists who practice in hospitals, health maintenance organizations, long-term care facilities, home care, and other components of health care systems. ASHP believes that the mission of pharmacists is to help people make the best use of medications. Assisting pharmacists in fulfilling this mission is ASHP's primary objective. The Society has extensive publishing and educational programs designed to help members improve their delivery of pharmaceutical care, and it is the national accrediting organization for pharmacy residency and pharmacy technician training programs.
