Pharmacist, Physician Groups Team Up to Tackle Medical Error, Other Issues

Cheryl A. Thompson

Pharmacists and physicians recently met at ASHP headquarters to build an alliance that will use the strengths of both professions to find solutions to prevent medical errors and improve patient care.

ASHP hosted the second of an ongoing series of discussions between representatives of the American College of Physicians–American Society of Internal Medicine and several national pharmacy organizations in late July. The meeting provided a forum for each organization to share the priorities of their constituencies, discuss issues of mutual concern including patient safety and prescription drug benefits, and strategize areas for potential collaboration. The group plans to meet quarterly.
