ASHP Invites Comments on Draft Pharmacy Practice Residency Standard

Cheryl A. Thompson

The Accreditation Services Division invites residency program directors and preceptors to review drafts of the revised "ASHP Accreditation Standard for Residencies in Pharmacy Practice" (PDF) and associated educational goals and learning objectives (PDF) and provide feedback to the ASHP Commission on Credentialing (COC).

Comments can be voiced during the Residency Preceptors Town Hall meeting at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting, Sunday, Dec. 3, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. or submitted in writing to the Accreditation Services Division by Jan. 5, 2001.

The drafts reflect extensive work by a writing team of COC members, staff of the Accreditation Services Division, and staff of the Educational Resources Division. Readers will notice that the draft contains some changes in philosophy from the current standard and that the associated educational goals and learning objectives also contain new material.

COC plans to present a final draft of the Standard to the ASHP Board of Directors for its approval next spring. Once approved, the Standard will have a one-year phase-in period, after which the new Standard will completely replace the current one. During the phase-in period, programs scheduled for survey will have the option of being reviewed against either standard.
