2001 Immunization Schedule Available

Kate Traynor

The recommended childhood immunization schedule for 2001, developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, has been released.

New for this year is a recommendation that all children under two years of age receive the pneumococcal vaccine that was approved for use in young children last year. Use of this vaccine is also recommended for certain children under five years of age.

The schedule also expands the target population for hepatitis A vaccination to include adolescents up to 18 years of age.

For details, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Web site. The schedule will also be published in the 2001 edition of ASHP’s AHFS Drug Information.
