Los Angeles Convention Center Unaffected by Utility Bankruptcy

Kate Traynor

The recent declaration of bankruptcy by Pacific Gas & Electric Co. will not affect operation of the Los Angeles Convention Center, site of ASHP Annual Meeting 2001 in June. Los Angeles runs the nation's largest municipally owned utility—the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power—and does not rely on the state's power grid to deliver electricity.

ASHP is keeping a close eye on the energy crisis affecting California. Because Los Angeles officials chose not to enter the deregulated market, the city has not been affected by power shortages and rolling blackouts to date.
