Video Spotlights Certified Technicians

Kate Traynor

The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) has produced a new video, available in VHS and CD-ROM formats, that describes how certification helps technicians make the most of their profession’s opportunities.

During the brief video, titled "Enhancing Pharmaceutical Care: Certified Pharmacy Technicians," PTCB-certified pharmacy technicians describe what professional credentialing has meant for them. Technicians appearing in the video work in community and health-system settings. The video also features interviews with ASHP Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Henri R. Manasse, Jr., Ph.D., Sc.D., and other pharmacy leaders.

PTCB Executive Director Melissa M. Murer described the video as a way to "showcase how important the technician is in patient care." Murer said the video also helps emphasize the role of PTCB-certified technicians as "an important component in addressing the patient safety issue."

The video is targeted for educators and employers of pharmacy technicians, as well as technicians who are considering certification.

ASHP is one of the four professional pharmacy organizations that created PTCB in 1995.
