Cheryl A. Thompson

Three lots of caspofungin acetate injection are being recalled by Merck & Co. Inc. because of "potential sterility assurance concerns," according to a company-issued notice dated May 1.

Affected by the recall are lots 1309L, 1516L, and 0017M, all with an expiration date of Aug. 31, 2003.

The May 1 notice includes a reply card and a packing slip for returning the vials. Questions about the recall process should be directed to 800-668-4391. For assistance in shipping the vials, call 800-637-2579.

Caspofungin acetate, an antifungal known by the brand name Cancidas, has been distributed in recent months through a product allocation program.
