Amgen Warns of More Counterfeit Epogen Lots

Kate Traynor

Amgen Inc. recently identified two additional counterfeit lots of the company’s epoetin alfa product, Epogen.

The affected lots are P001091, with an expiration date of 09/02, and P001486, with an expiration date of 12/02. Last month, the company announced the discovery of counterfeit Epogen bearing the lot number P002970 and an expiration date of 7/03. The newly discovered vials and the previously identified lot are labeled as containing 40,000 U/mL of Epogen and are packaged in 10-vial cartons.

Amgen has asked health care professionals who suspect that they have received counterfeit Epogen to quarantine the material and contact the Food and Drug Administration Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research at 800-835-4709.
