Correction Notice for Neuromuscular Blockade Guidelines

Cheryl A. Thompson

Please note a correction to a typographical error in ASHP’s “Clinical Practice Guidelines for Sustained Neuromuscular Blockade in the Adult Critically Ill Patient” in the Web and print editions of Best Practices in Health-System Pharmacy 2002-2003.

In the bottom half of the first column of Table 1 on page 457, the unit of measure for the infusion dose of the aminosteroidal drugs listed in columns 2 through 5 is mistakenly described as “milligrams/kilogram/minute.” The correct unit of measure for the doses in columns 2 through 5 is “micrograms/kilogram/minute.”

The editors of Best Practices in Health-System Pharmacy 2002-2003 urge you to correct this error in all copies of the guidelines and communicate the correction to others on your staff who may use these guidelines. Users who have downloaded the guidelines from ASHP’s Web site should download the corrected guidelines (PDF) and replace the incorrect version. Until a correction sticker arrives from ASHP, users of the print edition should make a notation correcting this error on page 457. Users of the print edition who have not received the correction sticker by May 31, 2003, should contact ASHP at ppsad@ashp.org to request one.

Notices of the need for correction have been sent to all purchasers of Best Practices in Health-System Pharmacy 2002-2003 as well as to directors of hospital pharmacies. In addition, notices have been posted in several places on the ASHP Web site.

Please note that the version of the guidelines originally published in the January 15, 2002, issue of the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy (Am J Health-Syst Pharm 2002; 59:179-95) contains the correct unit of measure for the doses.
