AHA Appoints Pharmacist to Health Professions Committee

Cheryl A. Thompson

Pharmacy services director Rita Shane, Pharm.D., FASHP, of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, was recently appointed to a two-year term on the American Hospital Association (AHA) Committee on Health Professions.

The multidisciplinary committee, she said, provides AHA with input and advice on a broad assortment of topics having an impact on clinical administration or implications for health professions and their educational programs. At her first committee meeting, she said the group discussed a variety of topics, including smallpox vaccination, medical professionalism, and the changing environment for physicians.

Shane said her appointment to the committee will give her the opportunity to voice a pharmacist's perspective and that of a health professional at a large community teaching hospital.

Other committee members hail from medicine, nursing, and health care administration, with Shane as the only pharmacist.
