More Leaky Fentanyl Patches Recalled

Cheryl A. Thompson

Seven weeks after first announcing a manufacturing problem with the fentanyl transdermal patch, Janssen Pharmaceutica Products yesterday added five lots—0327192, 0327193, 0327294, 0327295, and 0330362—to its national recall of Duragesic-75.

Janssen said some patches in one of the additional lots had leaked fentanyl gel along one edge, so the company decided to recall all of the Duragesic-75 patches that had been made on the same manufacturing line during the same time frame.

The initial recall was announced Feb. 16.

Duragesic-75 releases 75 mcg of fentanyl per hour for 72 hours. Before use, the intact patch contains 7.5 mg of fentanyl.
