ASHP Accepting Applications for Executive Residency
ASHP today announced that it is accepting applications for the 2017 ASHP Executive Residency in Association Leadership and Management. Created for pharmacy college graduates who are interested in a career in association management, the paid 12-month residency program provides one resident with hands-on training under the guidance of ASHP executives in all facets of not-for-profit association leadership and management.
The ASHP Executive Residency was created in 1968. Since its creation, graduates of the program have gone on to serve in leadership roles in associations, government, for-profit corporations, academia, philanthropy, and various other sectors.
“For nearly 50 years, the ASHP Executive Residency has been a crown jewel in training future pharmacist leaders and association executives,” said Kasey K. Thompson, Pharm.D., M.S., M.B.A., ASHP’s Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President, Office of Policy, Planning and Communications, who will serve as the program director. “The residency is a wonderful and unique opportunity for individuals aspiring to become association leaders,” Thompson added.
Housed at ASHP Headquarters in Bethesda, Md., the program trains pharmacy college graduates in the many aspects of association management including the following:
- Executive Leadership
- Membership Recruitment and Retention
- Practice Standards Development
- Marketing and Sales
- Strategic Planning
- Human Resources
- Public Relations
- Educational Program Development
- Information Technology
- Product and Program Development
- Conference and Convention Management
The ASHP Executive Resident will receive a stipend and is eligible for other ASHP benefits.
To apply for the residency, interested pharmacy college graduates should electronically submit a cover letter explaining their interest in the residency, future goals, and qualifications; curriculum vitae; three letters of recommendation; and college transcripts. The deadline for applications is January 9, 2017.
