New CSRxP Ad Campaign Attacks Rising Drug Prices
The Campaign for Sustainable Rx Pricing (CSRxP) this week launched a national TV and digital advertising campaign that delivers a harsh rebuke of direct-to-consumer advertising of prescription drugs. ASHP is a lead member of the CSRxP Steering Committee.
The campaign features a commercial for a mock drug, “Price Gougisal,” that is “impossible to afford and reverses the ability to pay other bills.” CSRxP’s website notes that “nine of ten of the biggest drug makers spent 50 percent more advertising their products than researching and developing new ones.”
Addressing the issue of skyrocketing drug prices is one of ASHP’s highest and longstanding public policy issues. ASHP has been proactively addressing and tackling challenges related to drug pricing on several fronts, including working with likeminded stakeholders and educating members of Congress about the unsustainable burdens faced by patients, our members, and the entire healthcare system.
