Reasons for selecting this career path
I wanted a rewarding career that I would leave every day feeling like what I did matters and had a positive impact on people’s lives. My mother is a nurse and helped lead me to pharmacy; the hospital she worked at gave me the opportunity to work as a pharmacy technician. I love problem solving, improving work flow, and increasing productivity. One major reason I didn’t go to pharmacy school was that I saw an opportunity to be a leader and focus operationally which was my passion, rather than clinical work, but still be a part of the healthcare team and care for patients.
Professional Interests
I enjoy improving operations and workflow making people more efficient and productive. Learning from others best practices or tips/tricks that I can then share with others to improve their skills. I take great pride in encouraging others professional development through creating career ladders for technicians, and through my involvement with various trade organizations. Every organization I have worked for I have pushed to use technicians to their fullest potential.
Interest in the PTF Executive Committee
I am excited to be a part of this committee and its enormous potential to legitimize the pharmacy technician practice. The ability to develop policies, resources, training aides, and influence the industry to utilize technicians to their fullest potential
Benefits of being involved in ASHP as a Pharmacy Technician
Being an ASHP member allows me to make valuable professional connections throughout the industry and allows me to learn from others in various practice settings across the country. The large volume of available continuing education included in my membership allows me to renew my certification and continue to learn and grow.
Fun Fact
I was a finalist for the PTCB 2017 CPhT of the year
