Today's episode provides an engaging interview with three pharmacy leaders who have had successful careers and contributed significantly to health system professional associations. Indu Lew, Karen Lin, and Nancy T. Yam share their insights on their professional journeys as pharmacists and association leaders. This discussion includes the value of mentors, essentials for leading teams, growing influence, and achieving personal goals.

SPEAKERS

Indu LewIndu Lew, PharmD., SVP and Chief Pharmacy Officer for RWJBarnabas Health, oversees and provides strategic leadership for the 25 divisions within the Pharmacy Enterprise. 

She started her career at RWJBarnabas Health at Newark Beth Israel as a clinical pharmacist in 2002.  She joined Corporate Pharmacy as a Biotechnology Fellow in 2003. She then moved into the role of Director of Education and Research in 2005 and was promoted to VP of Corporate Pharmacy in 2008.

Karen LinKaren Lin received her Doctor of Pharmacy at St. John’s University in Queens, NY. In the past year, she completed a combined PGY1/PGY2 residency in Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA and received her Master in Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh. She is currently the Pharmacy Operations Manager at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA. In her role she oversees the hematology/oncology infusion sites and assists with overall day-to-day operations in the pharmacy. Karen is active at the national level serving in the American Society of Health-System Pharmacist New Practitioners Forum advocating for advancing patient care and at the local level with the Pennsylvania Society of Health System Pharmacists.

Nancy YamNancy T. Yam is the Associate Chief Pharmacy Officer, Director of Pharmacy – Acute Care, at UC San Diego Health, a 808 bed academic medical center where she is responsible for over 130 FTEs and is the residency program director for the PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency. Dr. Yam also holds an academic appointment at UC San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences as an Associate Clinical Professor.

David ChenDavid Chen, B.S.Pharm., M.B.A., is the Assistant Vice President for Pharmacy Leadership and Planning and the ASHP Staff Liaison for the Section’s Executive Committee and member groups.

Chen received his B.S.Pharm. from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy and completed the Director-in-Training program for Owen Healthcare, Inc in Texas. He earned his M.B.A from the Loyola University Maryland.

His responsibilities with ASHP include working with pharmacy leaders in multi-hospital health systems, coordinating pharmacy leadership and management resources with Section members, developing ASHP’s annual Conference for Pharmacy Leaders, assisting with the ASHP Foundation’s Pharmacy Forecast, and supporting achievement of the Practice Advancement Initiative (PAI).
