Translating Data Into Action: Part 1

This mini-series will focus on how to get started in using data to drive decision-making and highlight institutions with successful implementations. This podcast is intended to provide tips on how to begin gaining support for data and analytics resources within a pharmacy department.

SPEAKERS

Sylvia BedfordSylvia Belford, PharmD, MS, CPHIMS, FASHP is the Operations Administrator for the Clinical Systems Education department at Mayo Clinic.  She leads the training team of the electronic health record and related systems for all sites at Mayo Clinic and serves as secretary of the User Experience and Education governance committee. From 2015 to 2018 she was the clinical director for the implementation and support of the Epic electronic health record and revenue cycle management system across Mayo Clinic, during what was called the Plummer Project.  Dr Belford is passionate about the efficient and safe use of EHRs in all areas of clinical practice.  Prior to the Epic implementation project, Dr Belford was a Medication Management Informaticist at Mayo Clinic and the first Program Director for their PGY-2 Pharmacy Informatics residency. She has experience implementing Epic in two other organizations, previously serving as Director, IT Clinical Informatics for Sanford Health in SD, ND, and MN, and as Manager, Medication Safety and Information Technology for the University of Wisconsin Hospital & Clinics, in Madison, WI. 

Dr Belford completed her Doctor of Pharmacy and MS in Pharmacy degrees at the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy, and residency training in health-system pharmacy administration at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. She served on the Executive Committee of ASHP's Section of Pharmacy Informatics and Technology in the chair role 2015-2018 and as Director-at-Large from 2010-2013. She is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Information & Management Systems (CPHIMS) and maintains memberships in the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS). In 2018, she was recognized as a Fellow of ASHP.

Evan ColmenaresEvan Colmenares is the Pharmacist Coordinator for Pharmacy Analytics and Outcomes at UNC Health as well as a PhD Candidate in Pharmaceutical Outcomes & Policy at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. In this role, he serves as a subject matter expert for users wishing to gain insights around pharmacy data within the health care system. Additionally, he is interested in leveraging data to inform and improve practice across the pharmacy enterprise.

Brittany HuffBrittany Huff is the Assistant Director of Pharmacy for Pediatric services at the University of Chicago Medical Center. She completed 2 years of residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, with her PGY2 being in administration and leadership. Within her current role, Brittany enjoys building relationships and learning from others. She is motivated by challenges and believes that her purpose is to assist with creating opportunities for underserved populations as well as empowering her team to reach higher.
