Understanding and Combatting Impostor Syndrome

In this podcast episode, members of the New Practitioners Forum Career Development Advisory Group interview two pharmacy leaders on their perspectives of impostor syndrome and how it's impacted their personal and professional lives. The speakers help define impostor syndrome and provide words of wisdom to new practitioners and beyond when facing impostor syndrome. SPEAKERS

Joseph CavanaughJoseph Cavanaugh, PharmD, BCPS, BCCCP, is the assistant director of clinical pharmacy services at RWJBarnabas Health Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ. Dr. Cavanaugh provides clinical leadership across the pharmacy department including serving as the residency program director for the ASHP Accredited postgraduate year 1 Pharmacy Residency Program. Joseph is responsible for the implementation and oversight of clinical pharmacy services. Dr. Cavanaugh has a passion for advancing the profession and mentoring future pharmacy leaders.

Lindsey KelleyLindsey R. Kelley, PharmD, MS, FASHP is associate chief of pharmacy at University of Michigan Health, Michigan Medicine. In this role she also serves as program director for the postgraduate year 1 Community Pharmacy Residency and adjunct faculty at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. Dr. Kelley has been an active member of national pharmacy associations, state affiliates, and advisory councils. She serves as a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Directors Forum and as an advisory board member for IBM Micromedex. She currently serves as Director-at-Large for the ASHP Section of Pharmacy Practice Leaders. Dr. Kelley was honored with the ASHP New Practitioners Forum Distinguished Service Award in 2010 and recognized as a fellow in 2019.

Kristine ZhangKristine Zhang, PharmD, is currently the medication reconciliation pharmacy supervisor at Regional Medical Center of San Jose, where she manages a team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy interns to help ensure safe transitions of care. She completed a postgraduate year 2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency at the County of Santa Clara Health System and a PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency at the VA Boston Healthcare System. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, hiking, cooking, and photography.

Vishal ShahVishal Shah, PharmD, is a postgraduate year 1 specialty pharmacy resident at Emory University Hospital Midtown. Vishal completed his undergraduate coursework at the University of Georgia and recently graduated pharmacy school from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy. Vishal’s areas of interest include specialty pharmacy, ambulatory care, and health-system administration. Following the completion of his PGY-1, he will be staying on with Emory University to complete a PGY-2 in Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership.
