This episode will provide an overview of excipients and dyes used in medications that often consumed by children. Topics will include an overview of specific excipients and dyes, allergies vs intolerance to substances, and an explanation of regulatory oversight.

SPEAKERS

Tara Smith Tara Smith, PharmD, MS, BCPS is a pediatric clinical pharmacy specialist, at HCA Florida West Hospital. She has practiced pediatric pharmacy for over 25 years, including 16 years as a pediatric clinical manager and is currently serving as an advanced clinical practice pharmacist in pediatrics. Her primary interests include medication safety, and prevention of medication errors, biomedical informatics, and education of pharmacy students and residents in the field of pediatrics.


Jordan Burdine Jordan Burdine, PharmD MBA, BCPPS is a clinical pharmacy practice specialist in Pediatrics and Neonatology at UTMB Health in Galveston, Texas. At UTMB, Dr. Burdine works as part of the neonatal interdisciplinary team, precepts pharmacy students and residents, provides education to physicians and nurses, and assists in the development of guidelines and protocols for the UTMB Department of Pediatrics.
