Abby’s Story

Dr. Abby A. Kahaleh completed a Doctor of Philosophy, Department of Social and Administrative Sciences at the College of Pharmacy, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan in August, 2003. She also obtained as a dual degree a Masters in Health Management and Policy, School of Public Health at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan in December, 2003.

Dr. Kahaleh completed a Masters of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Division of Pharmacy and Healthcare Administration at the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio in June, 1997 after completing a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy, at the University of Damascus and the University of Toledo.

Recently, Dr. Kahaleh completed several certification programs including the OTC Advisor Advancing Patient Self-Care, the Pharmaceutical Care for Patients with Diabetes, the Lipid Management Program, the Pharmacists-Provided Immunization Program, and the Delivering Medication Therapy Management (MTM) in the Community.

Previously, Dr. Kahaleh served as the advisor for a nationally-recognized Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists (SSHP) chapter. Currently, Dr. Kahaleh was selected to serve on the ASHP Inpatient Section Advisory Group for Pharmacy Practice Experiences. in addition, Dr. Kahaleh continues to serve as an ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting reviewer. Finally, Dr. Kahaleh was elected to serve as the Chair of the Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists (ICHP) and Chair of the Ambulatory Care Network. 

Overview of Facility/Health System

Roosevelt University (RU) is a higher education academic university named after Franklin D. and Eleanor Roosevelt. in 2009, the RU College of Pharmacy was founded. Dr. Abby A. Kahaleh was invited to join the Founding Leadership Team as the Associate Dean for Experiential Education. Dr. Kahaleh established a network of local, regional, and national practitioners who provided a quality experiential education. Consequently, she was instrumental in meeting the Accreditation Council of Pharmacy Education (ACPE) standards.

Significant Projects

Dr. Kahaleh completed the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Academic Leadership Fellow Program. one of her Leadership Projects was to develop the RUCollege of Pharmacy (RUCOP) Mission and Vision. Dr. Kahaleh served as a Co-Chair of a Professional Council Committee with the dean for finalizing the RUCOP Mission and RUCOP Vision. She developed a new Mission, Vision, and a list of Core Values for the college in collaboration with members of the Professional Council. Currently, Dr. Kahaleh is serving on the RU Board of Trustees.

Dr. Kahaleh was selected by her peers to serve as the presidential officer of the AACP Curriculum SIG, Experiential Education Section, and Global Pharmacy Education. In addition, Dr. Kahaleh was invited by the American Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) to participate in several national and global site accreditation visits to various schools and colleges of pharmacy.
