Allen Flynn is a research analyst in the Division of Learning and Knowledge Systems at the Department of Learning Health Sciences of the University of Michigan Medical School. In that role he leads a software development team that is creating a new digital web services library platform. This new knowledge delivery platform places medication-use and other biomedical knowledge into practice on-demand and in context.

Following his Pharm.D. graduation in 1993 from the University of Michigan, Dr. Flynn studied Computer Science.  After working as a network analyst during the dot-com bubble he returned to pharmacy practice as a hospital staff pharmacist in 2003. Dr. Flynn was soon promoted to Coordinator and became involved with several major health IT projects at Trinity Health. For the next 9 years he held roles of increasing responsibility while developing his expertise in electronic prescribing and medication system safety.   Dr. Flynn has served in numerous leadership roles in the Section including as Vice Chair of the Advisory Group on Clinical Information Systems, member of the Advisory Group on Professional Development, and as Chair of the Section Executive Committee.

Dr. Flynn is presently a doctoral candidate in the School of Information at the University of Michigan where he conducts research on information modeling methods for encoding disease and therapeutic progressions for automated processing. He has also authored several publications in the domain of health informatics.

Dr. Flynn has served in numerous leadership roles in the Section including as Vice Chair of the Advisory Group on Clinical Information Systems, member of the Advisory Group on Professional Development, and as Chair of the Section Executive Committee.
