Tristan’s Story

Tristan Edwards, Pharm.D., is currently a PGY2 Pharmacy Informatics Resident at Aurora Health Care, in Milwaukee, WI. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh, where he also completed a Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Tristan developed an interest in informatics upon encountering automation projects as a pharmacy student. Facility/Health System

Aurora Health Care is an integrated health system consisting of 16 hospitals, more than 150 clinics, and 70 retail pharmacies that span eastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.

Significant Projects

As a PGY1, Dr. Edwards led an initiative to optimize the system’s management of pharmacy informatics requests. As a current PGY2, he is focusing on standardizing dispense preparation in the electronic health record for sterile and non-sterile compounds, across an expanding integrated health system.

Initial Involvement in ASHP

"I first became involved in ASHP when I was seeking a pharmacy residency. I have since benefited from the knowledge and perspectives shared through conferences and professional relationships provided by the organization."

Advice

My advice to any developing professional would be to at least take the time to get a base understanding of pharmacy informatics. This field is tied so closely with the advancement of health care. Having just a relative understanding of health information technology can help clinicians take better care of their patients.

Value of ASHP

"ASHP is an organization that brings together individuals who are committed to the profession of pharmacy and its impact on patient care. It offers opportunities for professional development and meeting folks at all stages of their careers."

"This intersection of people and ideas is where practice standards are developed to bring the most value to our patient care."
