Status: Discontinued
To develop a pilot educational program for presentation to ASHP members sent through a video satellite network teleconferencing medium; further,

To consider the topic of reimbursement for pharmacy services for the first teleconferencing program; further,

To conduct the first program in 1982, if feasible; further,

To establish, within ASHP s organizational structure, a responsibility center to advise how electronic technologies can be used in continuing education and member communication activities and to recommend a timetable for implementing these applications.

This ASHP policy position was discontinued in 2000.

Rationale

This policy position was developed before preparation of a policy rationale became routine, so no rationale is available.

Background

Recognition by the Council of the rapid advances being made in electronic communications led to the consensus that ASHP should move rapidly to make use of these media in its future continuing education efforts. Subsequent to the 1981 Council meeting, staff developed a proposal for a national video teleconference seminar to be aired sometime in mid-1982. The topic of reimbursement has been included in the proposed seminar program.
