National trends in prescription drug expenditures and projections for 2021

In this episode of AJHP Voices, Dr. Eric Tichy and Dr. Michelle Wiest discuss the AJHP Special Feature on National Trends in Prescription Drug Expenditures and projections for 2021, focusing specifically on the forecast’s findings, uses, and the impact of COVID-19 on drug expenditures this past year.
SPEAKERS
Eric Tichy obtained his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Connecticut, completed his postgraduate pharmacy residency training at Yale New Haven Hospital and received a Masters of Business Administration from Yale University School of Management. He currently works for the Mayo Clinic where he is Division Chair, Pharmacy Supply Solutions. Dr Tichy’s professional interests include leadership, immunology, plasma protein therapeutics and transplantation.
Michelle Dusing Wiest, Pharm.D., BCPS, FASHP is the vice president of pharmacy services at UC Health and clinical associate professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy.
As the vice president of pharmacy services, Shelly is responsible for the pharmacy enterprise, including: operations, clinical pharmacy activities and medication use for the four hospitals, infusion centers, associated clinics, and outpatient and specialty pharmacies.
Shelly’s expertise includes: formulary management, drug policy initiatives, medication use evaluations, purchasing and contract management, as well as clinical program development and continuing education. The areas of didactic education include: literature evaluation, hospital pharmacy practice and application of statistics. Finally, Shelly’s research interests include pharmacoeconomics, outcomes research and influence of clinical pharmacy programs.
Shelly received her Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Kentucky in Lexington. She completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency followed by a specialty residency in Drug Information Practice at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.
A member of local, regional and national societies including USP, AHRQ ASHP, ACCP and UHC, she has served on the editorial board for AJHP and has published multiple abstracts, monographs and papers.
Shelly is active in her community of Crestview Hills, Kentucky and participates in a number of charitable activities.
