Section Advisory Groups

ASHP's Section of Ambulatory Care Practitioners has five Section Advisory Groups (SAG). These advisory groups help you engage with ASHP and colleagues who share the same interests as you.

SAG on Ambulatory Care Pharmacotherapy

Charge

To serve as member leaders to plan, create, and implement educational programming and to develop resources related to the clinical care of patients in the ambulatory care practice setting.  The primary area of emphasis shall be the management of chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular, anticoagulation, and specialty medications.

This SAG is designed for practitioners that are new to the ambulatory care practice setting (i.e. five years or less).

SAG on Clinical Practice Advancement

Charge

To serve as member leaders to plan, create, and implement educational programming and to develop other resources to promote clinical practice advancement in the ambulatory setting and across the continuum of care. Areas of emphasis shall include workforce development, professional development (e.g., clinical peer review, grant writing), clinical practice development (e.g., care delivery model implementation), collaborative practice, prevention and wellness initiatives, chronic disease management, credentialing and privileging, population health, and legislative advocacy efforts.

This SAG is designed for the experienced ambulatory care practitioner as well as ambulatory care practice managers. 

*NEW* For the 2019 – 2020 year, the SAG on Clinical Practice Advancement will be structured as three workgroups, with a maximum of 6 members per workgroup.

  • Workgroup on Advocacy (e.g. working with state affiliates)

  • Workgroup on Ambulatory Care Practice Management (e.g. workforce development, metrics)

  • Workgroup on Operations and Logistics of Practice Management (e.g. peer review, utilization of learners and support staff)

SAG on Compensation and Practice Sustainability

Charge

To serve as member leaders to plan, create, and implement educational programming and to develop other resources to promote compensation & practice. Practices may include hospital-based outpatient clinics, physician-based outpatient clinics, community pharmacy-based clinics, consultant pharmacist services, accountable care organizations (ACOs), federally qualified health centers (FQHC), and employer-based services. Areas of emphasis shall include compensation related to reimbursement, cost-avoidance, and pay-for-performance; business plan development; c-suite engagement; population health and billing for professional pharmacy services.

SAG on Medication Management Services

Charge

To serve as member leaders to plan, create, and implement educational programming and to develop other resources related to medication management. Specific focus should be around promoting the initiation and implementation of medication therapy management services across the continuum of care and particularly within and between ambulatory care and community settings. Consideration should be given to issues such as: workforce and professional development, development of care delivery models, credentialing and privileging (community setting), population health, impact of and reporting on health outcomes, and legislative advocacy efforts.

Network Facilitator

The Network Facilitator shall develop topics for discussion during their respective Section specific session at the Midyear Clinical Meeting or Summer Meeting. Facilitators will work with ASHP staff and Section members to organize and promote the session. As Facilitator, the member will assess emerging issues related to networking session topic as well as identify, share, and develop resources to enhance the ability of members to meet patient needs.

Please note that, if selected to serve as a facilitator, travel to the Midyear Clinical Meeting (MCM) or Summer Meeting (SM) is required as indicated below.
