NPF Advisory Groups

The ASHP New Practitioners Forum has six advisory groups that provide advice and guidance to the Forum regarding the unique needs of new practitioner members and how these needs might be addressed by the provision of resources and programs by ASHP.

Career Development Advisory Group

Scope: Support career development in advancing the evolving educational and informational needs of new practitioner members.

2019 - 2020 Charges:

  • Review CV Transitions Toolkit & provide enhancements to toolkit resources.
  • Identify best practices for poster design.
  • Review and enhance the  ASHP.org Career Transitions Resource Center.
  • Review Mental Health Awareness Task Force campaign and advise ASHP on educating students and new practitioners on mental health maintenance.
  • Identify personal life development resources

Clinical Practice Advisory Group

Scope: Support new practitioners with optimizing the care they provide to their patients.

2019 - 2020 Charges:

  • Identify new & emerging therapies to review and discuss.
  • Create & present clinical pearls for student program at 2019 Midyear Clinical Meeting.
  • Identify best practices on how to stay up-to-date on literature and guidelines as a new practitioner.
  • Review ASHP Research Tools gap analysis findings from 2018 - 2019.
  • Identify best practices for conducting a journal club.

Leadership Development Advisory Group

Scope: Support career development in advancing the evolving educational and informational needs of new practitioner members.

  • Engage ASHP Fellows (FASHP) in a formalized mentoring program.
  • Review and enhance the NPF online leadership journal club.
  • Identify best practices for running a meeting.
  • Conduct a gap analysis of the NPF leadership page.

Legislative Affairs Advisory Group

Scope: Facilitate new practitioner engagement in advocacy and legislative affairs opportunities.

2019 - 2020 Charges:

  • Explore opportunities to educate and engage new practitioners with the ASHP Political Action Committee.
  • Create elevator speeches to increase discussion among peers on practice issues that are relevant/current advocacy efforts within and for our profession.
  • Assist with PAI Emerging Best Practice Reports and prepare for PAI 2030.
  • Review NPF Advocacy Toolkit gap analysis findings from 2018 - 2019.

Membership and Outreach Advisory Group

Scope: Promote and grow membership through active involvement in ASHP.

2019 - 2020 Charges:

  • Review video testimonials on “What I wish I knew at 30: Lessons and career advice for new practitioners” and plan for future testimonials.
  • Plan and execute NPF Networking Session at 2019 Midyear Clinical Meeting.
  • Identify a strategy to recruit NPF spotlight submissions.
  • Engage NPF members on social media through creation of content and a calendar.

Resident Advancement Advisory Group

Purview: Promote membership, serve the evolving educational and informational needs, and support career development of pharmacy residents.

2019 - 2020 Charges:

  • Review ASHP workforce well-being and resilience resource page to continue identifying resources specific to new practitioners.
  • Review APPE rotation selection gap analysis findings from 2018 - 2019.
  • Review how to choose wise letters of recommendation gap analysis findings from 2018 - 2019.
  • Facilitate a pre-MCM19 session on "What you wish you knew for Midyear."

Advisory Group Eligibility Requirements

The Chair of the New Practitioners Forum will appoint nineteen new practitioners to each advisory group for a June - May term. Advisory groups communicate primarily via e-mail and conference call on a periodic basis. Attendance at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting is encouraged as the advisory group members have the opportunity to meet face-to-face. Prior elected / appointed leadership is NOT required, however, appointments are competitive. 

All nominees must:

  • Be a member of ASHP.
  • Graduated from pharmacy school in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, or 2019.
  • Willing to participate in all conference call meetings throughout the year.

Application Instructions

Step 1: Complete the electronic application form (will open mid-Feb).


Step 2: Submit the following information in to the Chair of the New Practitioners Forum Executive Committee via the above electronic application:

  • CV
  • Statement of interest (250 words or less)
  • Note: For individuals seeking appointment as the Advisory Group Chair, you will be prompted to address your leadership style and meeting management skills in the application.
