She received her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Missouri – Kansas City. Sarah has always been interested in operations and informatics and has previously practiced in a variety of areas including pediatrics, informatics and medication safety. Erich  BrechtelsbauerErich Brechtelsbauer received his Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and his Master’s Degree in Health-System Pharmacy Administration from The Ohio State University (OSU), while also completing a two-year residency at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.Erich currently serves as Pharmacy Manager of Ambulatory Infusion at Emory Healthcare and the Winship Cancer Institute in Atlanta, GA. Nicholas CapoteDr. Capote is an inpatient pharmacy manager at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA. His areas of oversight include sterile compounding practice, infusion center pharmacy operations in Boston and Stoneham, MA, and controlled substance oversight. Additionally, he is the Tufts Medical Center Designated Person for implementation of safe handling of hazardous drugs (USP 800). Dr. Capote completed his formal post-graduate training at the combined PGY1/PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration residency at University of Wisconsin Health. Additionally, he obtained his Master of Science in Health System Pharmacy Administration at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His professional interests include development and motivation of pharmacy team members, inpatient and outpatient pharmacy operations, contemporary sterile and non-sterile compounding pharmacy practice, pharmacy automation and technology, and advocacy on behalf of pharmacy practice advancement. Dr. Capote is a project leader on the inaugural American Society of Health System Pharmacists Compounding Practice Section Advisory Group for the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners. He also is an active member of the Massachusetts Society of Health System Pharmacists and the American Pharmacists Association.

Angela CassanoAngela T. Cassano, Pharm. D., BCPS, FASHP, is Founder and President of Pharmfusion Consulting, LLC, a consulting firm for hospital pharmacy management, integration of pharmacy technicians and medical technology into pharmacy practice models, sterile compounding, and medication safety. She is an adjunct faculty member for Virginia Commonwealth School of Pharmacy where she teaches pharmacy law and serves as faculty for the VCU Center for Compounding Practice and Research. She also serves as Scientific Project Manager in the ASHP Office of Professional Development with responsibilities for developing educational programs and resources in sterile compounding, including the online resource centers, cspinsourcing.org and pnsafeuse.org.

Dr. Cassano earned her Pharm.D. degree at Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina, and completed two residencies at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System in Richmond, Virginia. Prior to her current role, she served as a pediatric and neonatal clinical pharmacist, Assistant Health System Director of Quality Assurance and Drug Safety, and Assistant Health System Director for Clinical Pharmacy Programs. She has done research and subsequent presentations and publications on topics that include pharmacy technician advancement, regulatory compliance, sterile compounding, quality assurance, and medication safety. She recently completed her tenure as an inaugural member of the ASHP-ACPE Pharmacy Technician Accreditation Commission. Dr. Cassano is a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist and was awarded the distinction of Fellow of ASHP.

Mala CrossleyMala Crossley, Pharm.D., has held branch, regional, and corporate positions with national long term care, home infusion, and specialty pharmacy providers. She began her career at St. Jude Children’s Hospital working in investigational drug studies. After several years in hospital practice, she joined Accredo Specialty Pharmacy, and then moved to BioScrip as Manager of their Kansas City pharmacy. Dr. Crossley revitalized that pharmacy, growing revenue 5-fold within a year while significantly increasing efficiency.  Recognized for her skill, she held the position of National Director of Clinical Operations for BioScrip for several years. To expand her skill set on the payer side of infusion services, Dr. Crossley joined CareCentrix as Senior Director of Business and Protocol Development for CareCentrix. Most recently, Dr. Crossley was Vice President, Payer Relations for Elwyn Pharmacy Group, acquired by BioMatrix Specialty Pharmacy.

Dr. Crossley’s background includes serving as a corporate leader for specialty pharmacy and home infusion services, development of a sophisticated specialty infusion outcome reporting system in 2011, creation of home infusion cost reduction programs for insurers, and expansion of a specialty pharmacy business nationally. Dr. Crossley is skilled in branch and program turnaround. Her expertise is in clinical and operational pharmacy services, business development, sterile compounding, and accreditation as well as payer programs for clinical outcomes, site of service, and efficient provision of care. She held corporate level responsibility for URAC accreditation, was a surveyor for HQAA, and is now surveying for ACHC. Dr. Crossley is on committees with NHIA and NASP and has spoken at national meetings on rare diseases/orphan drugs, biosimilars, and gene therapy.

Kevin AngerDr. Ashley Duty was born and raised in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio. She earned a Doctor of Pharmacy from the Raabe College of Pharmacy at Ohio Northern University and a Master of Science in Health-System Pharmacy Administration from Northeast Ohio Medical University. Ashley completed a PGY1/2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration residency at the Cleveland Clinic in 2014.

Dr. Duty is currently a pharmacy manager at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. There she is responsible for 20 pharmacists working in general medicine and hematology/oncology as well as all sterile compounding operations (USP 797 and USP 800 oversight). Ashley’s professional interests include operations, medication safety, and informatics. She is also very passionate about leadership development. Professionally, Ashley is involved with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and serves as a member of the Educational Steering Committee for the Section of Pharmacy Practice Managers. She has previously served as Chair and Vice Chair of the New Practitioners Forum.

Ryan A. ForreyRyan A. Forrey is currently Senior Manager, Market Development for Becton Dickinson and Company (BD) focused on the hazardous drug safety platform for the company. Prior to his transition to BD, he was Director of Pharmacy at Emory University Hospital Midtown in Atlanta where he was responsible for the distributive and clinical operations for the inpatient facility as well as the Winship Cancer Institute infusion center pharmacies. He currently serves on the United States Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) Compounding Expert Committee, the group charged with creating compounding standards for sterile, nonsterile, and hazardous drugs. He also served in a leadership role as Associate Director of Pharmacy at The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, where he oversaw design and construction of new and highly-automated cancer hospital inpatient pharmacy as well as several outpatient infusion center pharmacies.
He received his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Arizona, and Master of Science in Health-System Pharmacy Administration from The Ohio State University and completed a combined PGY1/PGY2 Residency in Health-System Pharmacy Administration from The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He provides graduate course lectures at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy on the topics of pharmacy management and sterile compounding facility design.  He is a prolific speaker on the topics of sterile compounding facility design, USP Chapter <797>, USP Chapter <800>, and oncology pharmacy operations.

Kevin AngerKevin Hansen, Pharm.D., M.S., BCPS is Assistant Director of Pharmacy at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina. Dr. Hansen provides leadership and operational oversight for pharmaceutical compounding and pharmacy perioperative services. He is a preceptor for the Health-System Pharmacy Administration residency program. In addition, Dr. Hansen serves as adjunct faculty for the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy.

Dr. Hansen earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) in Erie, Pennsylvania and completed an ASHP-accredited PGY1/PGY2/MS Health-System Pharmacy Administration residency at the University of North Carolina Medical Center. He is board certified in pharmacotherapy through the Board of Pharmacy Specialties.
Within Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Dr. Hansen is involved in several committees and initiatives related to his practice interests of pharmaceutical compounding, handling hazardous drugs, medication and compounding safety, drug shortage management, and pharmacy perioperative services. He has taken a lead role in developing multidisciplinary teams, such as the Pharmaceutical Compounding Advisory Council and the Hazardous Drug Committee. He also provides pharmaceutical compounding guidance and standardization across Cone Health, a 6-hospital health system. Dr. Hansen is a member of ASHP and the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists (NCAP). He currently serves a leading role in the ASHP Section of Pharmacy Practice Managers (SPPM) Sterile Products Workgroup.

Dr. Ilenin has been actively involved with ASHP throughout his career and previously served on the Section of Pharmacy Practice Managers Strategic Advisory Group on Patient Care Quality. Marc StranzMarc Stranz, Pharm.D., has worked for more than 30 years in sterile pharmacy compounding and was an early leader in the home infusion industry. He has held branch, regional, and corporate positions with several national providers, including Senior Vice President for Clinical and Strategic Operations at Coram and Vice President of Clinical Operations and Regulatory Affairs at BioScrip. Dr. Stranz was also Corporate Director of Infusion Services for Omnicare and Chief Clinical Officer for BioScrip Specialty Services. He was Vice President of Clinical and Compliance for Elwyn Pharmacy Group, and is now the Chief Clinical Officer for BioMatrix Specialty Pharmacy. 

A recognized business leader and subject matter expert, Dr. Stranz’s work is part of the core practice standards of the industry established by professional organizations and regulatory bodies as well as the body of policy and procedure used by specialty infusion organizations. Dr. Stranz pioneered safe and efficient provision of advanced infusion therapies at home and has sustained involvement in cutting-edge therapies. Dr. Stranz’s expertise includes clinical and operational services, regulatory compliance, accreditation, sterile compounding, and design/build of cleanrooms and infusion facilities. He stays engaged in the day to day practice of pharmacy, acting as interim management for local and regional operations nationwide. Dr. Stranz was an early Joint Commission pharmacy surveyor, has taken two national specialty pharmacies through four URAC surveys, and is currently an ACHC surveyor. Dr. Stranz speaks regularly at national clinical meetings on a variety of topics, publishes frequently, and serves on several professional committees.

Elaine StraussElaine Strauss received her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy and completed a 2-year Health System Pharmacy Administrative Residency at The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and Master’s Degree in Health System Pharmacy Administration from the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Strauss currently serves as a Pharmacy Clinical Consultant for Clinical Division of The WorkingBuildings Group, an Engineering, Commissioning, and Design firm based in Atlanta, GA. In this role, she works with Health System Pharmacy Clients on cleanroom SOP development and staff training and education. Prior to this, Dr. Strauss held the role of pharmacy Operations Manager of Compounding Services at Massachusetts General Hospital. In this role, she was responsible for ensuring the safety of all compounding services of the main pharmacy, batch manufacturing pharmacy, and oncology pharmacy satellite. Dr. Strauss has also served as Manager of Operations at Forbes Hospital and Clinical Manager at West Penn Hospital, both part of the Allegheny Health Network (AHN) in Pittsburgh, PA. In these former roles, Dr. Strauss was responsible for daily operations, implementing electronic health record and barcode scanning, and developing a discharge medication delivery program.

Dr. Strauss is also an active member of ASHP where she has held leadership roles within the Section Advisory Group on Leadership Development and has also enjoyed previous involvement with the Councils and Commissions. Dr. Strauss’ primary practice interests include sterile compounding, operational improvement, regulatory compliance, patient and medication safety, staff development, and student and resident training.

DeeAnn Wedemeyer-OlesonDeeAnn Wedemeyer-Oleson received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Drake University in 1999. She completed an ASHP-accredited residency in geriatric pharmacy practice at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Boise, ID.
She is the Director of Pharmacy and the Director of Clinical Safety, Quality, and Compliance at Guthrie County Hospital, a critical access hospital in rural Iowa. Dr. Wedemeyer-Oleson is a member of the Iowa Pharmacy Association and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. She served as a member of the Iowa Board of Pharmacy from 2007 – 2013. Dr. Wedemeyer-Oleson is an adjunct assistant professor for Drake University College of Pharmacy. She is currently pursuing a Master in Healthcare Administration (MHA) degree from Des Moines University.
