Reason for the Shortage

    • BD has heparin lock flush syringes on shortage due to increased demand and manufacturing constraints. The company is prioritizing the manufacturing of saline flush syringes.
    • Fresenius Kabi did not provide a reason for the shortage.
    • Medefil has heparin lock flush 5 mL in 12 mL syringes available. The company is not marketing other sizes. Medefil states the shortage is due to increased demand.

Estimated Resupply Dates

    • BD has all Posiflush heparin lock flush presentations on allocation.
    • Fresenius Kabi has heparin lock flush 1 mL vials on back order and the company estimates a release date of early-August 2022. The 5 mL multidose vials are on back order and the company estimates a release date in mid- to late-September 2022. The 1 mL preservative-free vials are on back order and the company estimates a release date in late-August 2022.
