Gwen Volpe is the Director of Medication Technology and Analytics at Fresenius Kabi. She is responsible for the commercialization of their +RFID® product portfolio, oversees Simplist® pharmacist support services, forges and maintains medication technology partnerships, provides voice of the customer perspectives, and leads other medication technology commercial initiatives. Her team of pharmacists support Fresenius Kabi’s mission of caring for life advising various internal departments with their clinical and technical knowledge. Ms. Volpe has held leadership roles in various facets of pharmacy including hospital, long-term care, medication automation, and now pharma in a career that has spanned more than 25 years.  

Ms. Volpe received her Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Butler University and is a registered pharmacist. She has continued her education with course work at Wharton, Purdue, Cornell, and Notre Dame in business and marketing concentrations, and is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Health Communication with a concentration in Healthcare Promotion, Media & Marketing.  

Ms. Volpe has been a long-serving member of ASHP and has held leadership roles within the Section of Pharmacy Informatics and Technology. She served for numerous years as member, Vice Chair and Chair of the Advisory Group for Operations and Automation, Director-at-Large of the Section Executive Committee, member of the Committee on Nominations, and is currently member of the Advisory Group on Operations and Automation.  She has contributed to ASHP Guidelines and Statements, chaired educational sessions, participated in ASHP webinars, and contributed to AJHP journal articles. Ms. Volpe is a recognized Fellow of ASHP.

Separate from her service to ASHP, Ms. Volpe dedicates much of her time to leadership and advancement in healthcare. She is a member of the GS1 US Healthcare Executive Leadership Committee, Advisory Board Member of the Thriv Coalition for IV accuracy, member on the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation Committee on Technology and is a member of the Advisory Board for healthcarediversion.org. Ms. Volpe is also an active member of the healthcare committee of the RAIN RFID Alliance and the AIM pharma group which is focused on the use of AIDC technologies for identifying and tracking prescription drugs.
