Dear Colleagues,
It is my honor and distinct privilege to serve as the chair of the section for 2023-2024. The past few years have been challenging for all of us on many levels as we navigated the “post-pandemic” landscape. Concurrently, we had the chance to witness the unwavering dedication and commitment members have shown to keep our section and our health systems moving forward. Echoing Dr. Mayo's sentiment, the only consistent element we encountered was change. We witnessed swift and accelerated use of technology in all aspects of patient care, and recently we've begun interacting with the rising influence of generative artificial intelligence (AI), especially its integration into healthcare and Electronic Health Records.
As we work on implementing new and exciting advancements, I would like to challenge the esteemed members of our section to think of new ways that would put new technology to use rather than applying new technology over “old ways”. Each change we encounter serves as an opportunity to reassess, reimagine, and innovate. I am looking forward to kicking off this year's upcoming projects alongside our SAGs and membership, and as our ASHP president Dr. Nishaminy (Nish) Kasbekar emphasized in her inaugural address, let’s embrace the change.
In the coming months, you will receive updates on various initiatives, webinars, workshops, and events designed to further our collective knowledge and capabilities. I also urge each of you to share your insights, experiences, and visions. Our section thrives when we all contribute, collaborate, and challenge one another to reach new heights as We get IT done for our patients.

Let me start by offering my sincere appreciation to Benjamin J. Anderson, PharmD, MPH, our outgoing Past-Chair, and Jeffrey Chalmers, PharmD, our outgoing Director-at-Large. Your commitment and efforts over the past three years have been truly remarkable. It is also my honor to introduce our incoming Chair-Elect, Jeffrey Chalmers, PharmD, and Director-at-Large-Elect, Casey Olsen, PharmD. A big thank you to everyone who stepped forward as candidates, and for consistently offering your time and leadership to the Section.
Upcoming ASHP Conferences:
Mark your calendars for the 2023 ASHP Conference for Pharmacy Leaders in Chicago, IL, and National Pharmacy Preceptors Conference which will be held virtually. Both conferences provide a platform to dive deep into meaningful conversations, share experiences, and grow as a community.
Also, I look forward to seeing many of you at this year the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting in Anaheim, CA. Stay tuned for details about a SOPIT social gathering in the coming months.
