Angela Cassano chats with Mr. Dom Bracero and Dr. Luis Pagan about one health system’s journey to insourcing compounded sterile preparations, specifically parenteral nutrition.

Dom BraceroDom Bracero, R.Ph, C.Ph, M.B.A., BCSCP, is Director of AdventHealth Orlando’s Central Fill Pharmacy, a central distribution facility in Orlando, Florida. Mr. Bracero received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from St. John’s University in Queens, New York. He earned his M.B.A. degree from Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa. A certified sterile compounding pharmacist, he serves as both the designated person and consultant of record. He is an active preceptor of PGY2 residents during activities associated with supply chain management, drug shortage mitigation, drug recalls, and centralized sterile compounding services.

Angela CassanoAngela T. Cassano, Pharm. D., BCPS, FASHP, is Founder and President of Pharmfusion Consulting, LLC, located in Midlothian, Virginia. In this role Dr. Cassano assists hospitals and pharmacy associations in projects focused on pharmacy management, practice integration of pharmacy technicians and technology, sterile compounding, and general medication safety. She received her Pharm.D. degree from Campbell University, and completed both Pharmacy Practice and Adult Internal Medicine/Pediatrics residencies at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Health System. Dr. Cassano serves as adjunct faculty for VCU where she teaches pharmacy law and serves as faculty for the VCU Center for Compounding Practice and Research.

Luis Carlos PaganDr. Luis Carlos Pagan is the sterile compounding supervisor at AdventHealth Central Fill Pharmacy. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, FL. Upon graduating, he completed a residency in the field of HIV/AIDS at the Leon County Health Department in Tallahassee. Dr. Pagan then became an Associate Professor at Florida A&M College of Pharmacy. In 2010, he moved to Orlando, Florida where he acquired the position as compounding pharmacist. During his time he transitioned to lead pharmacist and spearheaded numerous projects. In his move to AdventHealth, Dr. Pagan was appointed as the head pharmacist to implement the in-house compounding process transition for the Parenteral Nutrition program. His background and knowledge of the Baxter compounder and sterile compounding helped to create one of the most successful projects at AdventHealth system.
