NPF Executive Committee Message December 2022

Jessica Conn, PharmD

December 2022

Happy Holidays, New Practitioners!

As 2022 comes to an end, I hope you have reserved some quality time with friends and family and get to take some time to reflect on how far you’ve come in your pharmacy career journey. The new year can bring some added stress to new practitioners, with residency program deadlines approaching and interviews on the horizon, so I cannot stress enough how important it is to check in with yourself (and maybe a friend!) and take some time for self-care.

Grab a cup of hot cocoa and a cozy blanket, and head over to the ASHP Wellbeing Resource Center. Here you can learn more about burnout, watch the ASHP Well-Being and Resilience Webinar Series, and read well-being stories submitted by ASHP members like yourself. And if you are as passionate about well-being as I am, consider joining the ASHP Well-Being Ambassador Program. This self-paced program addresses core principles associated with burnout in the healthcare workforce, individual resilience strategies, redesigned work system approaches, and cultures to sustain healthcare professional well-being and resilience. After completing the program, you will earn your ASHP Well-Being and Resilience Certificate!

If you will be making career moves next year, be sure to check out the New Practitioner Transitions toolkit or the Resident to New Practitioner toolkit, packed with valuable information to guide you along your way. On the other hand, if you’re considering taking a Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties (BPS) exam in 2023, head on over here to check out preparation resources such as workbooks and practice exams. Now is the time to reflect on your goals and start making some New Year’s Resolutions!

To circle back, I hope one of those New Year’s Resolutions is to take care of yourself first and foremost. I challenge you to commit to at least one new self-care practice this year so that you’re able to be the best you for yourself and your patients.

If you have any comments, suggestions, or questions for the New Practitioners Forum Executive Committee, please reach out to us at [email protected]. You can also follow us on our NPF Twitter or start a discussion on NPF Connect.
