NPF Executive Committee Message February 2023

Gillian Leung, PharmD, BCCP

February 2023

Greetings, New Practitioners!

How is your 2023 so far? Between the holiday season, New Year’s resolutions, residency/job applications, and other new projects, the New Year can be a stressful time, especially for new practitioners. As you settle in, I encourage you to pause and look inward. What are you thinking, and how are you feeling? Reflect on how far you’ve come and ask yourself, “Where was I this time last year or even five years ago?”

By taking care of yourself, you’ll be able to be more effective, whether you are helping your patients, taking care of family, or reaching a personal/professional goal. If you are looking for guidance to promote well-being and resilience for you and your peers, be sure to check out the ASHP Well-Being Calendar for a list of monthly activities!

As the weather gets warmer and the days get longer, re-connect with your passions and hobbies! Even after a long work day, schedule 15 minutes per day dedicated to activities that bring you joy. You may be surprised by how refreshed you will feel!

For new practitioners awaiting Match results, be sure to visit the ASHP Match Day Resources to learn what to do surrounding Match Day. You will find information from “You’ve Matched!...Now What?”, “Advice for Phase II of the Match”, “Wellness After Match”, to “Moving Budget Spreadsheet”.

For students/residents transitioning to independent new practitioners, check out the Career Transitions Resource Center to navigate the next phase of your career.

If you aren’t in the aforementioned categories, no worries. Explore ASHP’s resources on Precepting and Leadership, Finance Management, Personal Development and Well-Being, and much more. ASHP’s New Practitioners Resources are here for you every step of the way.

Lastly, if you are interested in getting more involved within ASHP, don’t forget to apply to serve on one of the many NPF Advisory Groups by May 1. I love being involved and making new friends through these advisory groups and committees. We can’t wait to work with you.

To close, I wish you nothing but the best with all your personal and professional endeavors. If you have any comments, suggestions, or questions for the New Practitioners Forum Executive Committee, please reach out to us at [email protected]. You can also follow us on our NPF social media (Twitter @ASHP_NPF) or start a discussion on NPF Connect.

All the best,
